The 12th Singapore International Chemistry Conference (SICC12) is an extensive event that brings together top scientific research from around the world, covering a wide array of subjects such as sustainable energy conversion, catalysis, materials science, and biotechnology.
I was honored to be invited to participate in SICC12 for the first time, and it was an incredible experience. Our findings were shared in the "Alternative Energy for Solar Chemicals" symposium (link), chaired by Prof. Han Sen SOO. This event allowed me to explore some of the exciting research being conducted in areas like biomass valorization, electrochemical CO2 conversion, photocatalytic water splitting, and mechanochemical processes for organic transformation or perovskite synthesis. During this symposium, I presented the latest findings of the ERC RELICS project in a talk titled “Turning Biomass into Sustainable Feedstocks: Lignin Cracking via Photocatalytic and Electrocatalytic Methodologies.” Interestingly, a significant portion of the audience was involved or had been involved in the complex field of lignin valorization, and they were very enthusiastic about our results. There were numerous questions regarding the process details, general inquiries about parasitic processes, and even the purification of the products.

“In summary, the SICC12 conference is outstanding, ensuring there’s never a dull moment with its diverse range of topics covered across all symposiums. It provides ample inspiration for developing new cross-disciplinary subjects. A huge thank you to Prof. Soo for organizing such a fantastic event and bringing all the speakers together in such a wonderful city”
