The AGROALNEXT initiative strives towards creating strong synergies between Spanish groups working on the innovation and transference in the bioeconomy and the agrifood sectors in Spain.
From the 6th to the 8th or March we had the opportunity to participate at the conference organized by AGROALNEXT taking place in Gandía (Spain) to enable new joint strategies that go across different fields and discuss the latest advances on our topics of research. In this case, our lab contributed by presenting the latest progress in the projects VALIGRA (AGROALNEXT call) and RELICS (ERC StG).
One of the key highlights for our group is that it was the first contribution of Rocio Mari Escriva (Undergraduate student) the youngest member of the team. She presented a great poster summarizing its project on recycling the carbohydrates coming from the pomegranate peel residue. Her energy and enthusiasm were a magnet to attract the audience!
On the other hand, I had the chance to present the work done by our team on the valorization residues produced during the industrial processing of pomegranate in the region, that is, the recovery of polyphenols, the isolation of lignin and carbohydrates and the re-injection on the value chain as biofuels or compost.

Participating in this conferences with so many topics, that, to a large extent differs from our comfort zone is always challenging, but at the same time very exciting since it bring us closer to make an impact in the agrifood and agritech sectors of the region.
